USC Marshall Alumni Executive Board
Season's Greetings from the USC Marshall Alumni Association

Dear Trojans,

We want to wish you and your family the happiest of holidays. The USC Marshall Alumni Association has been moving along at a fantastic pace and as the year comes to an end we thought it would be nice to recap a few of this year’s successes with you.

Following up on last quarter's message, I want to expand on our four pillars: Build, Engage, Involve, and Give.

Build:
In June, we successfully hosted our first Online Networking Event that engaged nearly 400 chats between alumni of Marshall, Leventhal, Annenberg, and Viterbi. In November, we connected current Online MBA students with alumni around the world. We are looking forward to another online networking event again in 2017. If you have suggestions or would like to participate in this event, please email our alumni executive board’s Chief Marketing Officer, Christine McKibban, MBA '12.

Engage:
Since becoming the Executive Board Chairman in July, with the assistance of Champion Advisors Stevan Vela, MBA ’13 (Regional Representatives) and Jason Sabaugh ’07 (Engagement), the Marshall Alumni Association has engaged our global network of alumni  -- from all around California to Phoenix, Dallas, Chicago, Washington D.C., Iran, London, Paris, Rome, Athens, and more. Our goal is to assist all regional representatives in being strategic points of contact for the Marshall Community and establishing groups that can assist fellow alumni in their respective areas.

We have also been very successful in reaching out to the MBA programs at the Marshall School of Business. With the assistance of Dean Ku and her staff, we engaged seven cohorts thus far, opening the doors for them to the Marshall Alumni Network. We are looking forward to hosting an Online Networking event for alumni and all current MBA students at Marshall in February of 2017. If you are interested in joining this event, please email Chief Marketing Officer, Christine McKibban, MBA '12. Watch your emails for invitations to register for this and many other events.

2016-2017 Scholarship Luncheon

Involve:

Largely due to alumni involvement in the first-ever USC Day of SCupport in May and the annual Marshall Alumni Association Scholarship Golf Classic in June, J.D. Blashaw ’02, our Philanthropy Champion Advisor, and Rick Garcia ’02, now Chairman Emeritus, had the pleasure of meeting Marshall undergraduate student Spencer Wix, our 13th endowed scholarship award recipient at the school’s annual Scholarship Luncheon in November.

This year, we may move the annual Alumni Scholarship Golf Classic in Southern California to October. If you are interested in participating or sponsoring, please email Champion Advisor for Philanthropy, J.D. Blashaw '02.

Give:
Together, we can grow the USC Marshall Alumni Association Endowed Scholarship Fund to assist more Marshall and Leventhal students so financial issues will not be a determining factor for them to graduate. This growth can be achieved by connecting with alumni and friends in your area and participating in a variety of events, such as those featuring business speakers, executive panels, faculty presentations, industry roundtables, and networking breakfasts and luncheons.

Coming spring 2017, we have two worldwide opportunities to collectively give back:

  • March 11 – USC Alumni Day of SCervice (volunteer service projects)
  • May 4 – USC Day of SCupport (day of giving)

If you are interested in participating, please email Champion Advisor for Philanthropy, J.D. Blashaw '02.

USC Marshall Highlights:
This fall, Jill and Frank Fertitta Hall, Marshall’s new undergraduate building, welcomed its first semester of students. Some of the brightest students from around the world have been enjoying their impressive new building filled with the latest technology and collaborative spaces.

2016-2017 Scholarship Luncheon

In May 2017, USC, along with Bocconi University in Milan, Italy, and Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in Hong Kong, will graduate our first cohort of World Bachelor of Business alumni. This unique joint program requires students to apply to, be accepted by, and earn degrees at all three universities located across three countries in three different continents. They study at each university for one year, then focus on their specific interests by returning to one of the three universities in their fourth year. During our European travels this fall, my wife, Kelly, and I were honored to meet Celilia Concetti, one of the first members of the upcoming graduating class. Celilia's enthusiasm for the WBB program was energizing and she is looking forward to returning to USC for graduation in May as well as getting involved with the Marshall Alumni Association.

I look forward to the opportunity to connect with as many of you as possible. Please feel free to reach me through The Network online community and at various events throughout the year.

Happy Holidays and Fight On!
